PEACE AND SPORT AWARDS 2024

The Peace and Sport Awards were established in 2008 to recognize individuals and organizations that have made remarkable efforts towards promoting peace, social stability, and dialogue through sports. The winners have initiated programs ranging from specific field programs to global initiatives that embody the power of sports to bring together divided or opposed communities. In 2024, the Peace and Sport Awards will showcase the best practices that can inspire local, regional, and international stakeholders to understand the potential of sports to achieve global peace.

EMPOWERMENT THROUGH SPORT

Rewards stakeholders who demonstrate a strong commitment to youth and/or female empowerment through sport. This Award particularly recognizes initiatives that reduce inequalities and foster living together by using sport to empower individuals with life skills promoting equal opportunities and social inclusion for all.

DIPLOMATIC ACTION OF THE YEAR

Rewards initiatives that bridge cultural divides, foster international cooperation, and promote peace using sport as vector. This Award particularly recognizes efforts to enhance mutual understanding, reconcile communities and forge relationships at all levels through the universal language of sport.

PEACE EDUCATION THROUGH SPORT

Rewards stakeholders committed to teaching peace to the younger generations. This Award particularly recognizes initiatives that strengthen the capacities of educators – such as teachers, coaches, and social workers – to transmit values, attitudes and behaviours that encourage dialogue and sharing and prevent conflict, using sport as vehicle.

COALITIONS FOR PEACE THROUGH SPORT

Rewards a coalition of actors that promotes a culture of peace by relying on sport’s unique attributes and values. This Award particularly recognizes initiatives (campaigns, programs, etc.) designed to leverage the expertise and assets of each party, ensuring sustainability and scalability.

Champion For peace of the year

Rewards an outstanding athlete with a significant commitment in serving society, demonstrating that sport goes beyond performances. This award celebrates individuals whose dedication and actions have had a tangible impact on fostering positive social transformation, promoting peaceful communities, and inspiring other athletes to follow their example.
